The Urban Technology Alliance (UTA) is excited to announce that Cauayan City in Isabela, Philippines, has joined its global network of cities committed to advancing smart, sustainable urban development. This partnership was formalized last week at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, where UTA President Levent Gürgen and Cauayan City Mayor Caesar S. Dy met to solidify the collaboration.

As the Philippines’ first Smart City, Cauayan City has pioneered numerous initiatives since 2015, including the Smart Water Infrastructure and Management (SWIM) initiative, a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) roadmap for affordable and clean energy, and projects focused on disaster management. By joining UTA, Cauayan City gains direct access to an international network of cities, technology experts, innovators, and industry leaders. This partnership will enhance the city’s capacity to address its unique urban challenges through shared knowledge, best practices, and cutting-edge solutions.

The inclusion of Cauayan City marks a significant milestone for UTA as it expands its reach in South Asia. “Cauayan City’s proactive approach to sustainable urban development perfectly aligns with our goals,” remarked UTA President Levent Gürgen. “We look forward to supporting Cauayan’s journey towards becoming a smarter, more resilient city.”

This new alliance builds on the foundation laid earlier this year at the 2nd International Smart City Exposition and Networking Engagement (iSCENE), held from April 11-13, 2024, at the Isabela Convention Center in Cauayan City. Under the theme “Synergy Unleashed: Becoming Smart Cities Through Strategic Partnerships,” iSCENE brought together government leaders, industry experts, and academic institutions to explore strategic models and innovative solutions for creating liveable, sustainable cities. This event highlighted the collaborative potential between UTA and Cauayan City, setting the stage for this recent partnership.

Cauayan City’s membership with UTA will further strengthen its ongoing smart city projects and reinforce its commitment to using technology and innovation to improve urban services and quality of life for its residents. The Urban Technology Alliance looks forward to supporting Cauayan City and other member cities in their shared mission to build smart, resilient, and sustainable urban environments worldwide. Together, UTA and its members aim to drive technological advancements that address the pressing challenges of modern urbanization.
